Pompeii
On January 1st, our release date, we flew down to Napoli, rented a car and drove to Sorrento where we stayed for 4 days. Our 1st excursion was to Pompeii. about 47 AD Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried this city. They have been excavating it for about 100 years.
These are stepping stones so pedestrians can step over the mud in the streets. Notice the spacing so carts can freely pass them.
