Lago di Como

October 26, 2013.

This Saturday after we were done with our chores we decided to drive up to Como and see that city.  We got there about 11:30 and had a difficult time finding a parking place.  We walked down to the lake and walked along the shore.

Beautiful harbor

These 4 shots form a panorama

Beautiful in every direction

We walked along for a short distance and saw the ferry boat.  They were starting to load passengers and we decided to buy tickets and go too.

That is a funicular going up the mountain.

Lago di Como is well known for all of the large villas along the shore line.  This one has a large fountain (Geyser) going all of the time.

Our boat stopped at 10 or so of the little towns as it worked its way north.

A Villa

Another beautiful Villa

Pretty Town

Another Town

And another town.  Each town has their own church with a bell tower.

Another church and bell tower

Our 1st view of the alps as we cruise up lake Como

How about this tower?

There were even churches up on the mountain side.

This Villa has the columnar cypress trees that are so typical of Italy.

This was the most stunning Villa we saw.  It was on this point that jutted out into the lake.

I think this is a hotel not a Villa

Gorgeous views everywhere you look

Here is Bellagio where we will get off the ferry.  It has been a wonderful 2 hour ride to get here.

Bellagio is built on a hill side.  In the main city there are only tow roads, one across the lake side and the other up on top of the city.  Everything else is pedestrian only.

Beautiful church bell tower.

The hillside looking up from the road that runs along the top of the town.  This is the church parking lot.

How about this for a balcony

Bellagio Lake front.

We at lunch at a outside cafĂ©, then walked around the town and then sat on a bench on the lake for an hour.  We were in Bellagio almost 3 hours.

On the boat trip back we stopped at almost the same stops.

Here is an island in the lake with a wonderful restaurant and walking trails.

It was another 2 hour boat ride back to Como

It was a fabulous day!  Very beautiful and very relaxing!  We had a great time.  It was almost dark by the time we got back to Como.  A full

Doors & Handles

While in Podova, I saw more interesting doors and door handles.

This door as just on the right hand side of the main entrance to the St Anthony's Basilica.  Yes there was a guy sleeping on the bench.

Very nice door across the street from the Basilica.

Here is a close up of the key stone above the prior door.

Here is a great door with very unique handles.

The two door handles

How would you like to grab hold of this each day to open your door!

A modern door

This one has a sea shell for a handle

These door knobs may be knockers as well

What would you grab here?
